If you are in the Seattle area, join me for a session of Soma Structural Integration Manual Therapy! This is not a required part of the our at home pain recovery programs at Encove but rather a complimentary tool to be used in concert with Reclaiming Wellness or The Unbound Life.

What is Soma Structural Integration?

Soma is a type of structural integration, a manual touch therapy working specifically with the connective tissue, or fascia, of the body. It is a system of bodywork sessions that works to integrate all parts of the individual. It is often accomplished in 10 or 11 sessions commonly referred to as "The Series" in which different segments of the body receive work. This is a necessary and intentional system working to relieve fascial and myofascial adhesions. Movement education is an integral part of Soma as well that helps repattern the nervous system to sustain the work the body has received. Because Soma works with fascia and not just muscles, most clients report that the changes that they see are longer lasting than other treatments they have received.

In Soma, each part of the body is addressed in a particular sequence. This is what makes Soma unique and why results are often longer lasting. Compensation patterns can be found at and around a source of pain, impacting the entire physical and psychological structure. We essentially take the body apart and put it back together. Integration.

What’s the big deal about fascia?

Fascia is a web of connective tissue that connects and surrounds every structure in the human body. Imagine a web or bag surrounding each muscle, organ and bone in your body. Until about 30 years ago, anatomists disregarded this important structure in our bodies. Commonly referred to as "the organ of form" as it is responsible for the structure and form in the human body, it is a profound structure with both elasticity and plasticity characteristics. Fascia is designed to move freely with muscles and bones.

Throughout our lives, gravity takes an incredible toll on all of us-psychologically and physically causing fascial adhesions resulting in shorter, tighter fascia. Tightened fascia pulls our muscles and bones out of alignment in the gravity field. This can cause pain, poor posture and many other conditions as the body ages.

Benefits of Soma Structural Integration...

→ Relieves chronic pain

→ Improves posture and balance

→ Increases body awareness

→ Increases body function

→ Increases athletic performance

Soma Structural Integration can help...

→ Sports and Auto Injury

→ Chronic pain

→ TMJ

→ Fibromyalgia

→ Depression

→ Joint

→ Pain

→ Sciatica and so much more!

Integration is needed for bodywork to have deep meaning. If a practitioner works the back or spine or neck, for example, without addressing the corresponding pattern in front- then you work forever on the same client, on the same level, on the same issues.

It is not the clients’ increasing sense of a disparate collection of parts, nor really the conditions of those parts individually, but in the breakdown of relationships between and among them where disease finds root. This is an important distinction to make about Soma and other forms of structural integration.

By bringing the whole body into relationship with every part of itself, true wellness can be achieved.”

"Everything else I tried was useless but

working with Stefanie really turned things around"

I went into this program with Stefanie extremely skeptical but at a point in my health where I was willing to try anything. Essentially everything else I tried was useless but working with Stefanie really turned things around. She gave me the tools to keep it that way! I’m so glad I took the plunge.

“I achieved greater mobility physically and mentally!”

Soma with Stefanie was transformational. I achieved greater mobility physically and mentally! Stefanie’s approach to the work is professional and inviting. Always aware of her client’s experience, she was able to cater her treatment to gain maximum experiential results. I enjoyed our sessions and look forward to more tune ups in the future.
